This project involved creating a title design for a Tamil short film titled 'Mary'. The story follows Jansi, a young girl from a fisherman's family. Jansi often roams the seashore, haunted by memories of her lost sister, Mary. One day, a glimmer of hope emerges as Jansi spots a girl floating in the waves. Believing it to be her sister returned, Jansi's father rushes to rescue the girl and brings her home. However, a shroud of mystery remains. Who is this girl? Where does she come from?What led her to be adrift at sea? These are the questions that propel the narrative forward.
To capture the essence of the story and Jansi's emotional journey, I opted for a blue-based color palette. Blue evokes feelings of vastness, reflecting the endless ocean that both separates and connects the characters. Additionally, blue can represent both hope and melancholy, mirroring Jansi's conflicting emotions as she grapples with the possibility of Mary's return. I experimented with various design styles to find one that resonated with the film's tone. The final design you see here is the culmination of this exploration.
